From Healing From Within by Dr. Marlene Fuson, BCND — Chapter 25: Integrating Ancient Wisdom With Modern Healing

The purpose of a healing exercise is not to perform wellness perfectly. It is to learn what helps you feel more aware, supported, and aligned.

Pause With the Chapter Theme

Holistic care pays attention to the relationships among physical needs, emotions, thoughts, environment, purpose, culture, and connection. Integration means coordinating these parts rather than stacking unrelated practices.

Balance is personal and seasonal. A routine that supported you last year may need to change as your responsibilities, health, and priorities change.

The Whole-Person Wheel

Use the following prompts as a guided journal practice. Move through them slowly and adapt any step that does not fit your current capacity.

  1. Rate physical foundations, emotional support, relationships, environment, and purpose from one to ten.
  2. Choose the lowest area without judging it.
  3. Name one small change that would make that area feel more supported.
  4. Revisit the wheel in one month.

Carry One Insight Forward

Read what you wrote and underline one sentence that feels especially honest. Turn that sentence into one gentle intention for the next seven days. Reflection becomes useful when it leads to a realistic choice rather than another expectation of perfection.

Reflection for the Week

Which part of your whole-person wellness picture is asking for attention now?

Write without editing yourself for five minutes. You are not trying to produce the “right” answer; you are creating enough quiet to hear your own honest response.

Your Next Step

Choose one action from this article and practice it for seven days. Keep it small enough to complete even on a difficult day. At the end of the week, ask what felt supportive, what felt forced, and what you want to carry forward.
